This is an aftermarket fuel tank that is a dedicated, model-specific replacement for the Honda XL250 (1971–1975). It is frequently confused with Clarke’s universal vintage off-road tank - MX1 Canada Part# 3011362 (Clarke #11362).
The following fitment information and technical notes explain the differences between this tank and MX1 Canada Part# 301362.
This tank is molded with specific tunnel contours to match the factory frame layout and is a direct bolt-on fit for the Honda XL250 (1971–1975).
For a "Universal" alternative, see MX1 Canada Part# 301362. This is Clarke’s pre-1983 vintage universal off-road tank. For a later-generation XL250 or a project build, its wide mounting tunnel allows it to be adapted to the following applications:
- Honda: XL250 / XL500 (1976–1981), XR250 / XR500, XR350, XL350, MT250 and MR175
- Yamaha: DT175, DT250, DT400 and TT500
- Suzuki: PE250, PE400, SP400, SP500, DR370, DR500, DS185, TS185, RM400 and RM465
- Vintage Euro / Other: Bultaco, Hodaka and TM250 / TM400

ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL & INSTALLATION NOTES
Mounting Differences:
This tank mounts at the front like the stock Honda XL250 (1971–1975) metal tank, sliding over the factory front rubber puck frame mounts.
MX1 Canada Part# 301362 has a 2.75-inch-wide mounting tunnel and includes a universal bracket kit, spacers and mounting hardware for adapting it to non-standard frame backbones.
Petcock Configurations:
This tank has a single fuel outlet and includes a Clarke-style grooved petcock.
MX1 Canada Part# 301362 has dual fuel outlets, one on each side, allowing flexible fuel-line routing around different carburetor and exhaust configurations. It includes one Clarke-style grooved petcock and block-off hardware for the unused outlet.
Fuel Capacity:
This tank increases fuel capacity on the Honda XL250 (1971–1975) to 11.4 litres / 3 US gallons.
MX1 Canada Part# 301362 holds slightly less, at 10.2 litres / 2.7 US gallons.
Cosmetic Surface Blemishes:
Clarke manufactures these tanks from heavy-duty, high-impact, cross-linked polyethylene. The manufacturer notes that minor surface bubbles may form during the plastic curing process. These blemishes are cosmetic and do not affect structural integrity.
Manufacturing Shavings Warning:
You should thoroughly rinse and dry any new Clarke tank prior to installation. Small static-charged plastic shavings from the drilling/molding process can remain inside the tank and instantly clog a newly installed petcock.
MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY: Clarke offers a 30 day guarantee against defects and 1 year against breakage. Clarke reserves the right to refuse to replace tanks that have failed due to improper maintenance, incorrect mounting, modifications, or fittings installed that were not originally supplied with the tank. If you have purchased the tank through MX1 Canada please email us with your order number and a description of the issue. We will contact Clarke on your behalf to initiate a warranty claim.
